about

This is a song that I’d written a while back. Well, the basic music had been there for a while and it’s always a challenge to return to a track and add lyrics and some kind of melody.

There were two themes running through my mind when I put the lyrics together. The first was my impression that, increasingly, things are being down to us. Perhaps this is nothing new, but everything I read and hear say to me that individuals are increasingly powerless and that this permeates through the many aspects of our lives.

The second idea was one of addiction, something that often features in what I write. I’m not sure that I was linking the two ideas i.e. the more powerless we feel, the more likely we are to turn to something that then becomes addictive. My work in this area suggests it is always a journey without end, because you never know what life will throw at you and how vulnerable you become when things get difficult.

Often, it seems to me, that it is a key positive relationship that can make all the difference. Hence, the idea of a straight road or path leading to that one individual.
