There were a couple of films that gave me a starting point for this one, both starring Matt Damon. The first was ‘Good Will Hunting’ where, during an interview, an answer is given about how one decision can multiply in terms of its consequences. The second was ‘The Adjustment Bureau’ and the idea of ripples occurring as someone doesn’t follow their predicted plan.

Taking the above, I tried to think about someone reflecting on something that they’d done, such as telling a ‘white’ lie and the impact of this. I like the idea that the ‘ripple’ might not be immediate, but gather momentum as time passes. The fact that the person that the song is centred on has a level of insight proves to be a mixed blessing. They end up altering their approach to life but have to live with the knowledge of the chaos unleashed through their action.
